“Pearls” by Oliwia Smoleń is a small, intimate oil portrait from 2024, presented in a square 25 x 25 cm format. The artist builds the scene using strong, theatrical chiaroscuro and cinematic lighting, combining a deep, saturated blue falling on the figure’s face with warm, magenta-pink light in the background and on the ruffles at the neck. The titular pearls appear both in the depicted woman’s hair and beneath her eyes, mimicking frozen tears. A realistic, refined painterly technique creates an atmosphere of melancholy and mystery. The work makes an exceptional addition to a collection of contemporary portraiture. The piece is signed by the artist and offered unframed.
